22ct yellow gold rings are either marked with the 22 meaning 22 parts out of 24 pure gold or 916 which is 916 parts out of 1000 pure gold. The two marks are the same in percentage terms and mean the same. Today the 916 mark is more commonly used from the UK Assay office.
