This is our Gretna Green 18ct yellow gold Anvil wedding ring. Our own exclusive design and hand made in our workshops. Originally designed over 10 years ago it is still one of our most popular rings with many brides and grooms choosing it for their special Gretna wedding day.

This model is 5mm wide and as with all our Anvil wedding bands is made from a heavy court band.
The traditional Scottish court style is more comfortable to wears as it is curved on the inside as well as the outside.

The history of getting married at Gretna Green started with a number of local blacksmiths in the village performing the marriage ceremony due to the 1754 Marriage Act. This Act prevented couples in England under the age of 21 from marrying without parental consent.

Scotland's marriage laws were much less strict and a couple over 16 only had to declare themselves as husband and wife in front of two witnesses to be married.

Gretna Green was the closest village over the border and became host to many English couples wanting to tie the knot.

The tradition has continued, and today many thousands of weddings are held every year in Gretna Green, with couples coming from overseas to be married in the wedding ring capital of the world.
